Booking houseboat online at full price
Walk-in at Alleppey jetty saves ₹2,000–₹3,000. Inspect the boat, check the kitchen, test the AC, then negotiate.
Skipping the canoe ride
Houseboats only cruise wide canals. The narrow village canals — where the real backwater life happens — are only accessible by canoe. Budget ₹500 for 2 hours.
Booking a day cruise instead of overnight
Day cruises rush through in 4–5 hours. The overnight stay lets you see sunset, starry night, and misty sunrise on the water. Worth the extra cost.
Staying only in Alleppey town
Alleppey town itself is unremarkable. The magic is on the water and at Marari Beach. Plan at least one night outside town.
